God's Purpose For Our Lives
God is holy, righteous, loving, gracious, all-knowing and all-powerful. God loves us and wants us to have abundant life in a loving relationship with him. 1 John 4:8 states, "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. John 3:16 also states, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
We are sinners. We have either lied, stolen, lusted, had hatred in our hearts toward another or done something that has displeased God in our lifetime. Romans 3:23 states, "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God." We are sinners because of the condition we were born in and this condition of depravity and brokenness is reflected in the world around us and the soul within us. It's evident in how we think, what we say and how we behave. Romans 5:12 states, "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned." but your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.
The penalty for our sin is death and God's righteous judgement and sentencing of wrath and eternal separation for the sin we've inherited and the sin we have committed. Romans 3:23 (a) states, "For the wages of sin is death..." Ephesians 2:3 states, "...among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others."
God sends his Son Jesus Christ. John 1:1, 14 states, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus lives the life of total submission and fellowship with God the way He intended. 1 Peter 2:22 states, "He who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth."
Jesus Christ is crucified to pay the penalty for humanity because of the sin of humanity. John 19: 16-19 states, "And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus and led Him away." 2 Corinthians 5:21 states, God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
Three days after being crucified Jesus rose from the grave to complete the payment for sin and bring us back into a loving and righteous relationship with God. Romans 3:23 states, "Now it was written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification."
Admit our sins, repent from those sins thus acknowledging our need for a relationship with God. Mark 1:15 states, "...and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." Acts 3:19 states, "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."
Place our faith in Jesus and Jesus alone for our eternal salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." By doing so we are saved from death, eternal separation from God and saved to live a life in relationship with God that will last for eternity. Romans 6:23 (b) states "...the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
